Real Estate/Woods Visit Our Neck of the Woods, Experience More Traffic.

Rather than watching the superb episode of Parks and Recreation last Thursday, March 25, containing only the best coonskin cap gags, or one of the best episodes of The Office within a lackluster season, I had decided to revisit Real Estate and Woods. During a NYC visit, I caught the two acts in more of their natural habitat at Bowery Ballroom on July 15, 2009. Wavves had headlined that event, and his fuzzy fuckery that inexplicably incited moshing was not missed. Nathan Williams' (Wavves) act was also my dad's least favorite of the night (yes, he ventured to NYC, and I brought him along), though his credibility ranges from a longtime adoration for Genesis to the casual approval of Spoon.

On February 21, the city ensnared a couple friends and me in a traffic gridlock on our way to see The Clientele in Hoboken, NJ. Since then, Real Estate's debut album has been associated with that difficult drive from Brooklyn to Hoboken. That brings us back to March 25, where Real Estate and Woods dealt with rainy, unusually dense roadways, at least in my experience. Benefiting from growing exposure, these acts met a packed classroom in the Public Health Auditorium on the University of Pittsburgh campus, and played reassured sets that expanded slightly upon the promising first impression they left me with in NYC.

So, if you're considering Woods, while I may still be lost in Sleater-Kinney's, these Woodsist label bands are bound to retain and build upon their buzz. That's something that can't be said for the self-destructive Nathan Williams, also on Woodsist. It also should be noted that while the return trip to Ohio from Pittsburgh couldn't also be described as slow going, it did become SNOW going, if you know where I'm getting...
